This late 17th-century Jacobean dresser base is constructed from dark brown oak with a two-piece boarded top, three drawers, and a pair of central cupboard doors above panelled sides. The exterior displays applied geometric moulding, original wrought-iron hinges, and later brass drop handles with brass escutcheons, set against a warm golden patina. Pegged construction methods join the timbers of the frame and doors. Standing at 87 cm high, 168 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, the sideboard offers surface display space and concealed storage. In a contemporary home, the piece functions well as a sideboard in a dining room, a hall console, or a living room credenza. The low profile and traditional English country house aesthetic suit both historic interiors and modern rustic settings. The compact proportions provide practical storage capacity without dominating the floor plan.

A dresser base from the 17th century is a low oak storage cabinet featuring drawers situated above cupboard doors, originally designed for preparing and serving food in dining or kitchen areas.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native English oak using mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs, often fitted with iron hinges or brass handles.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-planed timber, irregular pegged construction, panel doors with geometric moulding, and natural wear consistent with age.

Place the piece in a hallway or dining space as a functional sideboard, pairing the dark oak timber with modern artwork or neutral wall backgrounds for contrast.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to protect the surface patina, dust with a soft microfibre cloth, and position the furniture away from direct heat sources.
