Description

A charming 18th-century carved oak dresser, circa 1750, beautifully bleached to reveal the natural character of the timber. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century oak dresser base is a low, horizontal piece of storage furniture fitted with drawers and raised on legs, originally crafted for serving food or storing household items in historic British homes.

These pieces were built using solid English or Welsh oak timber, constructed with pegged mortise-and-tenon joints, hand-dovetailed drawer linings, and cast brass drop handles.

Authentic period dressers exhibit hand-planed timber surfaces, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, historical timber shrinkage, and natural patination around the handles and feet.

Position the dresser base in a hallway, dining space, or living room, contrasting its heavily carved oak texture with clean contemporary artwork, ceramic lamps, or minimalist glass accessories.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice per year, keeping the item clear of direct radiators and damp conditions.
