Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century English country dresser base is made from oak with a warm brown timber colour and polished finish. The rectangular top has surface wear, marks, scratches, and water stains, while the body incorporates a central cupboard door flanked by two banks of two graduated drawers, bringing the total to four drawers. Brass swan-neck handles are fitted to each drawer, and a lock escutcheon sits on the central door. The base rests on shaped cabriole front legs and square back legs, set above a shaped pierced apron along the lower edge. The overall dimensions measure 84 cm high, 155 cm wide, and 49 cm deep. Practical for storage and display, this solid sideboard fits well in a dining room, hallway, or living area to hold tableware, linens, or everyday items. The central cupboard contains a single shelf behind the door, which has some staining on the wood panel. The cabriole legs at the front provide sturdy support, alongside the square back legs. Surface wear reflects age throughout the piece, including minor loss to one foot and subtle colour variations across the wooden panels.

FAQs

Preserve historic oak by applying a thin layer of natural beeswax polish once or twice a year, dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, and maintaining stable ambient humidity levels.

A traditional oak dresser base functions as a sideboard in a modern dining room, an entry hall console, or a living room media unit, balancing contemporary decor with historic texture.

Authentic period pieces display signs of hand-planing, irregular tool marks, hand-carved joinery, natural timber shrinkage along the grain, and historic patination around original hardware.

Traditional dresser bases are constructed from solid native oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, peg construction, raised panels, and cast brass swan-neck or drop handles.

An antique oak dresser base, originally developed in 17th and 18th-century Britain, is a low storage cabinet featuring drawers and sometimes cupboard doors, designed for serving food and storing tableware.
