Description

A 17th century English food hutch having a triple panelled frontage and duel panelled sides, with all panel inlaid with diamonds. The above rails and the front stiles inlaid with chequer board type banding, the front consisting of two heavily moulded doors with later brass knobs. The little cupboard has two truned baluster front legs and square straight stiles at the back. On closer inspection this hutch would have originally had a potboard base with the rear square stiles housing a back panel, we can see the rebate in both rear legs where the panel once slotted. The left back leg has been repaired a number of times through out it's life but is the origianal leg but does have some play. The rest of the legs are all solid and there are some minor lossed to the inlay mainly on the diamond panels. There are a number of old restorations commensurate with age, but the cupboard remains in good order with a lovely colour and patina.

This seventeenth century English food hutch is a Jacobean cupboard constructed from dark brown oak. The piece has a triple panelled frontage and dual panelled sides, with panels inlaid with diamonds, whilst the above rails and front stiles have chequer board type banding. The front consists of two heavily moulded doors with later brass knobs, reeded uprights, and spandrel brackets, standing on two turned baluster front legs and square straight stiles at the back. Historical alterations are evident, including a removed potboard base, a rebate in the rear legs, and multiple repairs to the left back leg which has some play, alongside minor losses to the inlay on the diamond panels and old restorations consistent with age. Measuring 87 cm in height, 126.5 cm in length, and 60.5 cm in depth, this hutch provides practical storage for living rooms, hallways, or dining spaces in a country house interior.
