Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating from French daybeds of the 18th century, the chaise longue evolved during the Victorian era into a standard fixture for drawing rooms and boudoirs. Designed for reclining during the day, these pieces reflected the periods emphasis on formal leisure and comfortable domestic seating.

Frames were typically constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or beech, often featuring turned legs fitted with brass castors. Internal upholstery relied on traditional materials including heavy-gauge steel springs, natural horsehair padding, jute webbing, and hand-stitched hessian.

Authentic period frames feature hand-cut joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, original brass castors with stamped makers marks, and makers stamps or paper labels on the underside of the seat rails. Evidence of hand-tacked webbing along the internal framework also indicates original construction.

Reupholstering an un-upholstered frame in modern neutral linen, boucle, or bold velvet allows the historical woodwork to stand out within contemporary room schemes. Positioned at the foot of a bed, in a bay window, or alongside a reading area, the piece serves as a functional focal point.

Clean exposed woodwork with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically to maintain the timber finish. Ensure brass castors are kept free of dust and lubricate the mechanism lightly if required to prevent stiffening.
