Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In 19th-century furniture design, a credenza was a decorative sideboard or display cabinet typically placed in a dining room or drawing room. Victorian credenzas were designed to store and showcase valuable porcelain, glassware, and silver, often featuring a central glazed compartment flanked by open or closed side shelves.

Craftsmen constructed these pieces using solid pine or oak timber framework covered with fine figured veneers, such as burr walnut or mahogany. Decorative elements frequently included gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, glass doors, and interior shelving lined in velvet or silk fabric.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass lock mechanisms, and uneven timber shrinkage along the back paneling. The burr walnut veneers show distinct book-matched grain patterns, and genuine gilt-bronze mounts display natural age-related patination rather than modern bright plating.

A credenza serves as an effective focal point along a hallway, dining room, or living room wall. Decorators balance the ornate Victorian woodwork by placing modern abstract artwork above the cabinet or arranging contemporary ceramics and minimalist table lamps across the top surface.

Position the item away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, or finish fading. Dust the surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and preserve the patina.
