Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in rural Britain during the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the country oak dresser served as a central storage unit in farmhouses and cottage kitchens. The upper rack displayed earthenware plates and pewter, while the lower drawers and shelves provided practical storage for kitchen utensils and linens.

Traditional dressers are constructed primarily from native oak, featuring hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and solid timber backboards. Cabinetmakers frequently utilized brass drop handles, iron nails, and turned timber supports to ensure durability.

Authentic period pieces display uneven hand-planed timber surfaces, age-related shrinkage marks across wide boards, and oxidation around original iron or brass hardware. Inspecting drawer bottoms and backboards often reveals historical hand-saw marks and pegged joint construction.

An oak dresser acts as a focal point when placed against neutral or contemporary painted walls in a kitchen, dining space, or hallway. Modern styling involves curating minimalist ceramics, contemporary glass, or greenery on the upper open shelves to contrast with the dark, textured wood.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice per year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and maintain a stable indoor environment to prevent the timber from warping or splitting.
