Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Meiji period cloisonne refers to Japanese enamelled metalwork produced during the Meiji era (18681912). This period marked a peak in technical refinement, where artists developed delicate wirework techniques and vibrant enamel glazes to create intricate naturalistic designs on copper or bronze vessels.

These pieces are constructed on a base of hammered copper or cast bronze. Thin strips of silver, brass, or gold wire are affixed to the surface to form cells (cloisons), which are then filled with coloured vitreous glass paste, kiln-fired, and polished smooth.

Authentic pieces feature precise wirework, dark or rich ground enamels without extensive pitting, and detailed depictions of flora and fauna. The base rim usually exhibits exposed copper or brass metal with natural age patina.

A cloisonne charger can be displayed on a plate stand atop a sideboard or mantelpiece to serve as a focal point. Alternatively, it can be mounted using a padded wire wall hanger within a gallery wall of decorative objects.

Dust the item gently using a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid immersion in water, chemical solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as moisture can breach minute cracks in the enamel and loosen the metal wirework over time.
