Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century pitch pine surrounds are distinguished by their prominent wood grain, dense timber composition, and traditional joinery. They frequently feature architectural elements such as carved corbels, moulded shelves, and clean vertical jambs typical of Victorian timber craft.

These mantelpieces were primarily constructed using slow-grown pitch pine or yellow pine, joined with mortise and tenon joints. Carved decorative accents, such as foliage or brackets, were executed directly into solid timber blocks prior to assembly.

Authentic period pieces exhibit historical wear, structural nail or dowel construction, and hand-tooled carving details on the underside of corbels. Unfinished or stripped pitch pine often displays tight growth rings and a distinct resinous fragrance when lightly rubbed.

A pine surround can frame a cast iron insert, log burner, or tile-lined recess to create an architectural focal point. Neutral paint shades on adjacent walls highlight the natural honey tones and grain of the timber.

Apply a natural beeswax polish periodically using a soft cloth to nourish the timber and protect the surface finish. Keep the wood clean by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners or proximity to extreme moisture.
