Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Post-Impressionist still life artwork is defined by a shift away from strict naturalism towards expressive colour, simplified forms, and textured application of paint. Artists frequently depicted everyday domestic objects, focusing on composition, light balance, and tonal harmonies.

Paintings from the early twentieth century were predominantly rendered using oil pigments ground with linseed oil, applied onto stretched linen or cotton canvas support. Frames were typically carved wood or moulded composition plaster finished with gold leaf gilding.

Authenticity is evaluated through age-appropriate canvas ageing, natural craquelure patterns across the paint surface, historic framing techniques, and signatures or gallery labels attached to the reverse stretcher bars.

An antique oil painting can be layered on a modern sideboard, hung above a fireplace mantelpiece, or integrated into a gallery wall to provide textural contrast against contemporary wall colours and clean-lined furniture.

Oil paintings should be hung away from direct sunlight, damp walls, and fluctuating heat sources to prevent cracking or canvas distortion. Cleaning should be restricted to light dusting with a soft dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners.
