Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George I walnut furniture, dating from 1714 to 1727, is recognised for its restrained proportions, rich figure-matched veneers, and delicate inlay work such as herringbone or feather banding. Craftsmen of this period favoured native and imported walnut over oak, constructing refined pieces with clear architectural lines before mahogany became dominant.

Herringbone banding, also known as feather banding, was created by setting narrow strips of straight-grained wood cut at a 45-degree angle alongside each other in opposing directions. These chevron-patterned border strips were set into walnut veneers around drawer fronts and top panels to create a subtle geometric frame.

Authentic pieces from the George I period typically exhibit hand-sawn oak drawer linings, dovetail joints with thick pin construction, and pine or oak primary carcase woods beneath thin walnut veneers. Original hardware often includes brass engraved backplates with drop swing handles, accompanied by turned bun feet or early bracket feet.

A George I walnut chest functions as a anchor piece in contemporary schemes, offering visual warmth through its timber grain. Positioned against neutral walls or deep modern pigments, it contrasts structured modern lighting and minimalist art while providing functional storage.

Walnut veneers require protection from direct sunlight and extreme humidity changes to prevent lifting or cracking. Regular dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and occasional application of natural beeswax polish maintains the patinated finish and protects the wood surface.
