Phil Bell Antique Rugs has dated this Antique Khila Wool Rug to the 1900s.
The palette being so unusual for an oriental rug that it makes one wonder if these were made for the western market. The large boteh march to and fro across the field with the upper two appearing to have been abandoned at the most difficult point. Gold and light blue seem to dominate the overall appearance with the latter being so pure and fresh that my eye is drawn to the spandrels and main border where it is concentrated. I am always excited by these rare pieces that stand out from the crowd and demand your attention.
Fair conditon with quite a lot of corrosion to the black wool and areas of wear across the rug. I imagine the selvedges have been secured at some point.
