Description

A fine Edwardian satinwood hand-painted writing desk dating from circa 1900, combining elegant proportions, beautifully figured timber and highly decorative period craftsmanship.

The desk is constructed in richly coloured satinwood, prized for its warm golden tone and distinctive shimmering grain. Delicate hand-painted floral garlands, trailing neoclassical ornament and finely rendered portrait medallions decorate the façade, creating an exceptionally refined appearance.

The raised upper section features a shaped gallery centred by a painted floral cartouche. Two panelled cupboard doors, each decorated with an oval portrait of an elegantly dressed female figure, open to reveal useful enclosed storage. Between them is an open writing compartment positioned above a further drawer, ideal for stationery and personal correspondence.

The lower section provides three additional drawers, including a broad central drawer, all fitted with attractive period-style circular handles. Slender tapering legs, painted with delicate bellflower decoration, complete the light and graceful silhouette.
