This large Victorian circular decorative tray and charger exemplifies Anglo-Indian style with a warm yellow brass and mixed metal construction. The piece features an intricate raised crimped rim and multiple concentric bands of hand-chased foliage and floral patterns. At the centre sits an arrangement of calligraphic cartouches surrounded by further decorative motifs. The surface displays minor signs of age and patina across the polished metalwork. The dimensions measure 2.5 cm high, 69 cm wide, and 69 cm deep. This substantial charger serves as a striking display piece in a gentleman's library or acts as an eye-catching decorative accessory atop a sideboard in a living room, dining room, or hallway.

During the Victorian era, hand-chased brass trays and chargers were imported extensively from the Middle East, North Africa, and India due to a growing interest in Orientalist metalwork and craftsmanship.

Craftsmen hand-hammered sheets of brass or mixed copper alloys before chasing patterns, geometric borders, and calligraphic text using punches and chisels.

Authentic period pieces display subtle irregularities in the hand-tooled pattern spacing, visible hammer marks on the reverse side, and natural oxidisation within the recessed engraving.

Large brass trays can be displayed on a plate stand upon a sideboard top, mounted onto a wall as textured metal art, or placed centrally on an ottoman to function as a coffee table surface.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth and avoid abrasive chemical polishes that can remove natural age patina or strip detail from the hand-engraved grooves. A light application of microcrystalline wax protects the metal surface.
