An exceptionally fine French Empire ormolu-mounted mahogany Cylinder-Bureau from the mid 19th century. Of generous proportions and fine construction in solid mahogany and attractive flame mahogany veneers. Embellished throughout with crisply cast ormolu mounts. A rectangular marble top sits over three drawers to the frieze. The cylinder is decorated with winged victories and a central chariot. It opens to reveal a fitted interior and a pull-out writing surface fitted with sumptuous leather complete with gilt tooled decoration. To the sides of the desk are further pull-out slides, again fitted with leather surfaces. To the base is a series of short drawers flanking a longer central drawer. The cylinder and all of the drawers are lockable (keys supplied). All standing on elegant legs with ormolu griffins ending in ormolu lion paws.
