Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pictorial silk rugs originating from West Anatolia became prominent during the 19th century under Ottoman artisan traditions. Unlike geometric tribal patterns, these carpets drew inspiration from Persian miniature paintings and courtly narratives, frequently depicting hunting parties, royal figures, and native wildlife.

These carpets are hand-knotted using pure silk threads for both the pile and foundation, allowing for an exceptionally high knot density. Natural plant and insect dyes were traditionally employed to produce intense shades of crimson red, indigo blue, and ivory.

Authentic period pieces exhibit subtle colour variation known as abrash, fine hand-spun silk construction, and intricate figural detailing that cannot be replicated by machine looms. Inspecting the reverse side reveals clear knot definition and flexible silk warp and weft threads.

Due to their intricate narrative designs and delicate silk fibres, pictorial rugs are frequently mounted on walls as textile art or placed in low-traffic areas such as study rooms, libraries, or formal seating spaces alongside dark wood furniture.

Silk textiles require protection from direct sunlight to prevent fibre fading and deterioration. Regular gentle vacuuming without a rotating brush attachment, immediate spot cleaning by a professional conservator, and appropriate padding underneath will prolong the carpets structural integrity.
