This Regency sideboard is crafted from warm brown mahogany with distinct figuring to the top and drawer fronts. The bow front houses a central drawer above a deeper recessed drawer, flanked by a cellarette drawer on one side and two smaller drawers on the other, all detailed with fine line inlay and circular brass ring pull handles. The upper surface carries a slender brass gallery rail supported by three uprights with small finials. Six bold turned and reeded legs with slender toes raise the structure from the ground. Measuring 90 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 61 cm deep, with an additional 34 cm height for the brass gallery rail, the sideboard fits comfortably in a dining room as a serving console or in a living space to display decorative objects.

FAQs

A Regency bow-front sideboard is characterised by its convex curved facade, constructed during the early nineteenth century in Britain. These pieces typically feature reeded or turned legs, flame mahogany veneers, and brass galleries or curtain rails mounted along the top rear edge.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid mahogany and mahogany veneers laid over oak or pine carcases. Construction features hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, cockbeaded drawer edges, and cast brass hardware such as ring handles and brass gallery rods.

Authentic Regency sideboards display hand-sawn timber marks, natural oxidisation on drawer bottoms, and hand-cut dovetails. Original brassware will show subtle variations from hand-casting, and the finish will exhibit genuine age-related patination rather than uniform modern lacquers.

A Regency sideboard serves as a functional focal point in modern dining rooms, entryways, or living spaces. The warm mahogany tones contrast effectively with neutral walls, contemporary artwork, or minimalist decorative ceramics placed on the top surface.

Regular dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and occasional application of high-quality beeswax polish maintains the timber lustre. Avoid placing the piece near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, and uneven fading.
