Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Inspired by archaeological discoveries throughout the 19th century, Egyptian Revival design features motifs such as sphinxes, pharaohs, obelisks, and winged scarabs, gaining prominence during the Napoleonic era and experiencing a resurgence in the late Victorian period.

High-end decorative pieces from the late 19th century were typically cast in bronze, often featuring fire-gilding, patination, or electro-gilded finishes, and mounted on solid black marble, slate, or stone bases.

Authentic period pieces display crisp hand-chased surface details, age-appropriate wear to the gilding, substantial weight, and period-correct threaded rods or square nuts securing the metal sculpture to its stone plinth.

A pair of decorative sphinxes can be positioned symmetrically to frame a central clock on a mantelpiece, used as desk bookends, or arranged on a console table alongside classical literature and antique glassware.

Dust gilt bronze regularly using a soft, clean microfibre cloth or a dry natural-bristle brush, avoiding liquid polishes, abrasive chemicals, and excess moisture that can erode historic surface gilding.
