Description

A beautifully constructed and very smart antique mahogany military campaign style chest of drawers. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1930’s.

The quality is superb, this is a lovely and useful size. The mahogany has a gorgeous colour tone and patina, offset beautifully by the brass handles and brass fixtures. There is plenty of storage space in the four generous drawers, this sits on nicely shaped bracket feet.

We have had this recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. Just some minor wear remains here and there beneath the polish, commensurate for age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Campaign furniture originated during the late 18th and 19th centuries, specifically designed for British military officers who needed portable, durable furnishings that could be easily packed and transported during campaigns.

Authentic campaign pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or teak, featuring reinforced brass corners and straps to protect against travel damage, alongside recessed flush handles to maximise space.

Authenticity is indicated by solid brass hardware screwed in with slot-headed screws, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, often built in two sections with carrying side handles, and signs of genuine age and wear.

A campaign chest works well as a statement piece in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, pairing effectively with both contemporary minimalist decor and traditional settings due to its clean architectural lines and metallic accents.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and clean periodically using a soft, dry cloth and traditional beeswax to maintain the finish.
