Shackladys Antiques has dated this Carved Walnut French Settee to the 19th Century.

The settee stands on slender cabriole legs with carved detailing to the knees and subtle scroll feet, the front rail following a sinuous line and centered with a small carved floral ornament. The walnut frame has a warm, rich tone that highlights the quality of the carving and the natural grain of the wood, while the overall proportions create an elegant and comfortable seating form suitable for a variety of interior settings.

The seat and back are upholstered in a champagne-toned damask fabric featuring an intricate floral and foliate pattern woven in soft cream and pale blush tones. A decorative braid trim follows the edges of the upholstery, emphasizing the flowing shape of the frame. The upholstery is not recent but remains presentable, contributing to the settee’s traditional character and complementing the warmth of the walnut structure.

The back is fully upholstered within the wooden frame panels, allowing the piece to sit attractively within a room as well as against a wall.
