Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Dutch Neoclassical chest of drawers is constructed from painted wood in a blue/grey colour. The rectangular piece stands on four turned feet and incorporates four long horizontal drawers fitted with brass oval drop handles and brass keyhole escutcheons. The front elevation includes fluted side pilasters, and the upper section has carved corner block details beneath a straight top surface. Measuring 83.5 cm high, 97.5 cm wide and 50 cm deep, the unit provides generous storage capacity for folded garments or household linens. Placed in a bedroom, dressing room or hallway today, the piece functions practically as a bedside surface, a low dresser, or an entryway console table while adding historical character to an interior.

FAQs

Antique Dutch chests of drawers from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries often feature Neoclassical proportions, fluted side pilasters, straight-fronted drawer arrangements, and classic brass hardware.

These pieces were typically constructed from robust hardwoods such as oak or pine carcass wood, frequently finished with paint or veneers, and fitted with brass drop handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces display hand-sawn secondary timbers on drawer linings and backs, hand-cut dovetail joints, brassware with historical age marks, and wear patterns along internal drawer runners.

Position the chest as a grounding element in a hallway or bedroom, styling the flat top with contemporary table lamps, framed artwork, or structured ceramic vessels to complement the neutral painted tone.

Maintain painted timber surfaces by wiping gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners, chemical polishes, or excessive humidity that could compromise the painted finish.
