Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mimikuchi refers to a traditional Japanese vase form characterised by prominent side handles resembling ears extending from the flared rim to the body. Historically cast in bronze, these vessels were frequently utilised in formal ikebana floral arrangements and display alcoves.

Japanese artisans traditionally crafted bronze vessels using lost-wax casting or sand casting methods. The metal alloy combines copper, tin, and zinc, which is hand-finished, chased, and chemically patinated to produce dark brown or deep olive tones.

Authentic pieces display detailed hand-chased surface work, crisp relief casting, and natural variations in patination from age. Look for cast or incised artisan signatures on the underside or lower section of the vessel body.

Displaying a pair of bronze vessels on a sideboard, console table, or mantelpiece creates balanced visual weight. Their dark patinated surface and geometric handles contrast effectively against lighter walls and modern wood surfaces.

Dust the bronze regularly using a dry microfibre cloth or a soft brush to remove dust from relief carving. Avoid liquid polishes and harsh chemical solvents, as these can strip the original patination and protective wax.
