Antique Hamadan Rug, West Persian, Handwoven Wool Carpet, Circa 1920, 7' × 4'4"

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique Hamadan Village Rug, West Persia, Circa 1920

A characterful early 20th-century Hamadan village rug from West Persia, dating to around 1920. The design features a warm camel-coloured lattice field centred by a bold, stepped indigo hexagonal medallion, enriched with stylised plant forms and tribal motifs. The surrounding spandrels incorporate lively zoomorphic and anthropomorphic figures, adding charm and visual interest, all framed within narrow indigo borders with traditional guard stripes.

Hand-knotted in wool, this is a well-balanced and decorative example of a classic Hamadan type, with strong colour contrast and an appealing, slightly tribal character. Its proportions make it particularly versatile, well suited to a hallway, bedside position, or smaller living space, where it adds warmth and texture without overpowering the room.

Dimensions:

Approx. 214 cm long × 133 cm wide (7' × 4'4")

Condition:

Good condition, commensurate with age.

The pile remains deep with minimal wear and retains good body throughout. Fringes have been trimmed, as often seen on rugs of this type and age. Colours are even and well preserved. The rug has been vacuumed, deodorised, and treated for moth prevention, and is clean and ready for immediate use. As expected with antique textiles, minor signs of age and use are present, but overall it remains a strong and attractive decorative piece.
