Azerbaijan mianeh kilim. North west persia,circa 1900.

A very scarce kilim with this fantastic interlocking eye dazzle design. It really does dazzle the eyes ! Certainly a connoisseur''s or collectors kilim.

All woollen construction.

For some reason or other these days these type of examples rarely appear in the marketplace. Many have gone into collections around the world.

Has been hand washed last two images.

Size is 9 foot 11 inches by 3 foot 11 inches. 303cm X 120cm at widest points. All woollen flat weave construction.

Weighs 4.7kg. U.k post £16.

The price I am asking is the only the price of many common turkish kilims of the same size on the market.

A Mianeh kilim is a traditional flatwoven textile originating from the northwestern region of Iran near Azerbaijan. These rugs are woven using hand-spun wool and are distinct for their repeating geometric patterns, vibrant colour combinations, and flat construction lacking a pile.

Kilims are constructed using a slit-weave technique where warp and weft threads are interwoven flat to create the pattern. The foundation and surface are made from hand-spun wool yarn dyed with vegetable and natural pigments, resulting in a durable and reversible textile.

Authentic pieces exhibit visible slits along vertical color transitions, a hallmark of slit-weaving. They feature stepped or serrated diamond medallions, natural variations in yarn thickness (slubs), and slight asymmetry in motif execution due to handloom production.
