Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Neoclassical bronzes are defined by classical Greco-Roman proportions, draped attire, realistic anatomical rendering, and dark or chemical patination. Produced extensively during the 19th century, these statues frequently depicted allegorical figures, mythological deities, and classical ideals.

Most antique French bronze sculptures were created using the lost-wax (cire perdue) or sand casting techniques, constructed from an alloy of copper and tin. After casting, skilled artisans hand-chased the cold metal to refine surface details before applying chemical patinas to achieve dark brown or green finishes.

Authentic pieces generally feature crisp hand-chased details in the hair and drapery, significant weight, proper foundry marks or signatures near the base, and original patination displaying age-appropriate surface wear rather than modern painted coatings.

A Neoclassical bronze figure acts as a grounding sculptural element on a mahogany sideboard, a marble mantelpiece, or within a dedicated display niche. Pairing dark bronze with minimalist light-coloured backgrounds or traditional timber creates a refined visual contrast.

Maintain the surface by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. Avoid water, harsh chemical cleaners, and abrasive polishes, applying a thin coat of microcrystalline wax annually to protect the original patina from oxidation.
