Fine Quality Early 19th Century French Bronze Bust of Napoleon on Marble Base

19th century

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Empire style sculptures from the early 19th century draw direct inspiration from classical Roman portraiture, featuring heroic profiles, crisp hair detail, and dark patinated bronze surfaces mounted on marble plinths.

Sculptures of this era were cast using either the lost-wax or sand-casting method, followed by hand-chasing to refine the surface details before applying a chemical patina and securing the cast to a stone base.

Authentic period bronzes display natural wear along raised areas of the patina, crisp hand-chiselled finishing in the hair and facial features, and traditional threaded iron rods or square nuts securing the cast to the marble plinth.

Place a classical portrait bust on a dark timber writing desk, a mantelpiece, or within a bookshelf, pairing it with structured books or leather accents to anchor a room.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth, applying a microcrystalline wax sparingly once a year to protect the bronze patina, while ensuring the marble base remains dry and clear of acidic cleaning agents.
