Japanese cloisonne, known as shippo-yaki, is a decorative technique where metal wires are applied to a vessels body to form intricate patterns, which are then filled with coloured vitreous enamels and fired.

These jars are typically constructed with a copper or brass base, fine copper or silver wires, and glass-based vitreous enamel pastes coloured with metallic oxides.
