Victorian brass planters, often called jardinieres, gained immense popularity during the 19th century as interior horticulture and exotic houseplants became fashionable in domestic drawing rooms.

These pieces were typically crafted using sheet brass that was spun, stamped, or hand-hammered, often featuring cast brass feet and drop handles joined securely to the body.

Authentic pieces usually display period-appropriate manufacturing marks, natural oxidation, hand-chased detailing, and construction methods characteristic of 19th-century metalworking.

Place the piece on a console table, mantelpiece, or bookshelf to introduce metallic warmth and texture, contrasting the polished brass with lush green foliage.

Clean the surface gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip historical patina, and use a plastic liner if holding live plants to prevent moisture damage.
