Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III serpentine chest of drawers is a storage piece produced during the reign of King George III in Britain (17601820). It is characterized by a distinctive double-curved front facade, where the centre swells outward while the ends recede, showcasing late 18th-century cabinetmaking techniques.

Primary woods included imported Cuban or West Indian mahogany for outer surfaces, often embellished with boxwood or ebony string inlay. Secondary woods used for drawer linings and internal framing typically comprised solid oak, deal, or pine.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed back panels, and original brass hardware or clear shadow marks from period replacements. Natural wood shrinkage over centuries often results in slight unevenness or minor surface cracking along the grain.

Designers frequently position period chests against neutral walls to contrast dark mahogany tones with contemporary backdrop palettes. Abstract artwork or contemporary ceramics placed above or on top of the chest create a curated, multi-layered aesthetic.

Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and finish fading. Clean the surface with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year following the wood grain.
