Fire fenders were designed to contain falling embers and sparks from an open hearth, protecting floor coverings and defining the hearth area within the room.

These pieces were typically crafted using sheet brass that was pierced, stamped, or embossed with detailed motifs, then reinforced with internal iron or brass framing.

Authentic pieces often feature period-specific manufacturing traits such as hand-cut piercing, traditional joining methods, heavy-gauge brass, and natural patination consistent with nineteenth-century metalwork.

A brass fender adds warmth and metallic texture to a fireplace, contrasting well against stone, brick, or minimalist hearths while complementing both modern and traditional living spaces.

Antique brass should be dusted gently with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that can strip the historic patina; a mild soap solution and careful drying are recommended if cleaning is necessary.
