Very Unusual Painted 3 Fold Screen, Gilt Fire Screen

This is an attractive Piece on a seafaring theme, each of the 3 folds has an oil painting inset panel, each panel is painted with boats and characters from the 19th century.

A useful piece in good condition the oil paintings are on board, the whole screen is 43” high and overall the screen is 47” wide and can be shaped, due to the size of the screen it would work very well in a large fireplace

This Rococo Revival three-fold fire screen dates from 1890 and is constructed from giltwood with oil-painted canvas inset panels. The painted maritime scenes depict boats and characters near a coastal shore at sunset across all three panels. The gold-painted carved frame has cabriole legs, a prominent shell cresting at the top, and acanthus leaf scroll mouldings. Hinges connect the three folds, allowing the screen to be shaped as needed. The dimensions measure 110 cm high, 170 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. Positioned in front of a fireplace hearth in a reception room or living room, the screen adds a decorative element to a mantel or chimney breast while shielding a room from fireplace embers.
