Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian small chest of drawers from 1920 combines golden oak and burr walnut timbers with metal hardware, presenting a warm golden brown colour palette across its polished wooden surfaces. The structural design incorporates a rectangular top with straight edges, square upright corner posts extending down to simple block feet, and panelled sides defined by recessed linear mouldings. Four drawers are arranged in a two-over-two configuration, featuring two smaller upper drawers alongside two deeper full-width lower drawers, all framed by clean wooden mouldings and fitted with dark drop handles suspended from small backplates. Measuring 81.5 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 45.5 cm deep, the compact dimensions suit placement in a bedroom, hallway, or study for everyday storage needs. The restrained Arts and Crafts aesthetic integrates readily into both traditional and contemporary English country house interiors, providing accessible drawer space while displaying prominent timber figuring on the grain.

FAQs

During the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, cabinetmakers frequently combined robust local woods like oak with highly decorative veneers, such as burr walnut, to create durable yet visually striking storage furniture.

Pieces from this era typically feature solid timber framing, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes, and panelled sides designed to accommodate wood movement over time without splitting.

Authentic examples exhibit signs of period craftsmanship including irregular dovetail joints, natural oxidisation in the wood grain, appropriate metal drop handles, and wear consistent with age around the drawer runners.

A compact antique chest functions well alongside neutral contemporary textiles, balanced by modern wall lighting or artwork mounted directly above to highlight the natural timber grain.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a quality beeswax polish once or twice per year, keeping the item clear of direct heat sources and excessive moisture.
