Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mahal rugs originate from the Arak weaving region in Persia, produced predominantly during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They are recognised by their expressive floral and shrub patterns, durable hand-knotted weave, and muted natural dye palettes.

Traditional Mahal runners were hand-woven using hand-spun wool yarns for the pile, knotted onto a strong cotton warp and weft foundation. Dyes were derived from natural plant and mineral sources, such as madder root for terracotta tones and indigo for blues.

Authentic pieces display hand-knotted construction visible on the underside, subtle colour variations known as abrash, and slight geometric irregularities characteristic of manual weaving. The foundation remains flexible, and the wool pile exhibits soft, natural surface variation consistent with age.

A long Persian runner is positioned along entry hallways, corridors, or landing areas to introduce texture and defined lines. Placing the textile over timber floors, flagstones, or neutral background carpeting grounds the space while complementing surrounding architectural features.

Vacuum the rug regularly on a low setting without a beater bar to prevent fibre damage. Rotate the textile periodically to balance foot traffic, use a quality rug underlay for stability, and consult professional specialist cleaners for stain removal.
