Small Queen Anne/george 1st Walnut Veneered Chest of Drawers

18th century
Description

An early 18th century chest of four drawers of small, yet practical, size and beautiful, glowing colour.

Veneered in well-matched, figured walnut on an oak ground, the top has a central, featherbanded oval reserve with feather and crossbanded edge.

The drawers, divided by narrow, crossgrained D-shaped mouldings, are feather banded and retain their original escutcheons with later handles of appropriate design. The deep, broad base moulding, unusually, is also veneered in walnut, above elm bun feet which appear to be original. English, circa 1700-1720.
