This late 17th or early 18th century Dutch Baroque chest of drawers is made of walnut with oyster veneer and brass, presenting a warm brown colour and a polished finish. The rectangular top displays an elaborate circular and geometric veneered design, while the four graduated drawers feature contrasting feather-banded panels, brass drop handles, and keyhole escutcheons. The sides show bold concentric circles in contrasting veneers, and the structure is raised on four large turned bun feet. Measuring 92.5 cm high, 104 cm wide, and 57 cm deep, the piece provides functional storage. In a contemporary home, this chest of drawers functions practically as a storage unit in a living room, hallway, or bedroom. The distinct geometric oyster veneering and warm timber tones suit traditional interiors, adding storage space and surface display area while serving as a prominent decorative element against a wall.

Dutch Baroque furniture of this era is distinguished by rich timber veneers, bold architectural forms, turned bun feet, and intricate decorative techniques such as oyster veneering and geometric marquetry.

Oyster veneering is created by cross-cutting small branches or saplings of timber at an angle, exposing circular growth rings that resemble oyster shells, which are then laid side-by-side across the carcase.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn timber carcases, dovetail joinery consistent with the period, genuine age-related shrinkage cracks in the veneer, and period-correct brass hardware or keyhole escutcheons.

An antique walnut chest serves as a focal piece when contrasted against minimalist modern walls, balanced by contemporary lighting, structural artwork, or simple ceramic decorative objects.

Keep the item in a stable environment away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer lifting; clean gently with a soft cloth and apply high-quality beeswax sparingly to preserve the timber finish.
