FAQs

The bureau desk evolved in late 17th-century Europe, combining a sloping writing flap with a storage cabinet or drawers below to keep correspondence and documents secure.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid oak or oak veneers over secondary timbers, featuring traditional joinery such as dovetail drawers and panelled construction.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-cut dovetail joints, period-appropriate hardware, timber shrinkage patterns, and the overall construction technique consistent with the era.

Pairing a dark wood bureau with contemporary seating, minimalist art, and neutral walls creates a balanced interior that highlights the historical texture of the wood.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive humidity changes, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber surface.
