A really gorgeous and rare antique Ushak rug, woven in the late 19th century and around 135 years old, the dyes are exquisite.   With a soft teal, green background, pink border and vivid oranges, these are classical dyes from this Turkish region and this period of weaving.The design is lovely and open and very easy on the eye, with stylised large floral palmettes and the simplistic vine border pattern.  The weave on Ushak rugs is generally rather coarse using bigger knotting than Persian rugs, as the wool is extremely soft, with a medium pile height on this rug.Oushak rugs or Ushak depending on the spelling preference, were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire.  Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and soft dyes are not uncommon.  Often younger Ushak rugs will be rich red in colour and use bolder geometric designs.Book in a showroom visit to see this rug up close soon, or request a home visit we...
