Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian era spans the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary cabinet timber.

These pieces typically utilized solid pine or oak carcases veneered with highly figured timbers such as flame or Cuban mahogany, assembled with hand-cut dovetail joints and traditional mortise and tenon construction.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct joinery with hand-sawn secondary woods like oak or pine, subtle natural oxidisation in the timber, and minor inconsistencies typical of hand tools rather than modern machine production.

Styling an imposing antique timber piece in a modern room relies on balancing its heavy visual weight with neutral walls, minimalist surrounding decor, and subtle lighting to highlight the grain of the wood.

Preserve the finish by maintaining stable room humidity away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying natural beeswax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
