Fine Regency Rosewood Sliding Top Davenport C.1825

An outstanding Regency rosewood Davenport desk in the manner of Gillows with a raised and mirrored gallery. In remarkably original condition, it still retains the original keys and working locks. The leathered slope has a brass supporting strut enabling comfortable access to the interior. There are two sliding shelves, one to each side. The sliding pen drawer is secured by an internal peg in the form of a faux drawer pull. The desk is easily manoeuvred with the assistance of hidden castors behind the lower skirt. The four drawers to the body open smoothly to the right hand side with original bun handles. The appearance to the left is similar but with faux drawer fronts and handles. There are marks and scratches commensurate with age and some minor chips to the veneer at base but overall in super condition. A fabulous and practical design oozing period quality.
