Georgian furniture, produced during the reigns of the first four Georges (17141830), is characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and refined craftsmanship, often drawing inspiration from Palladian, Rococo, and Neoclassical architecture.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, frequently incorporating secondary timbers like pine or deal for internal framing and drawer linings.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, hand-forged or brass hardware, and construction methods consistent with pre-industrial woodworking techniques.

Pairing a rich wood wardrobe with neutral, contemporary walls and minimalist hardware creates a sophisticated contrast, allowing the historical piece to function as a focal point without overwhelming the space.

Maintain timber furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping, and periodically nourish the surface with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone-based polishes.
