Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Davenport desk is a compact type of small writing desk popular during the Victorian era, typically featuring a sloping, leather-inset writing surface with a stationery box compartment on top and a pedestal of drawers accessed from the side.

These desks are traditionally constructed from solid secondary woods such as mahogany or pine, and veneered with highly figured decorative timbers like burr walnut, rosewood, or birds eye maple, often accented with brass galleries and leather writing surfaces.

Authentication involves examining construction details such as hand-cut dovetails on the interior drawers, traditional secondary wood framing, historical patination on the timber, and authentic brass hardware or castors consistent with 19th-century cabinet making.

A Davenport desk can serve as a functional accent piece or a compact workstation in a home study or living room, paired with a simple modern chair to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and clean contemporary lines.

Preservation requires keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the burr walnut veneer from drying or cracking, and maintaining the finish with occasional applications of appropriate furniture wax.
