FAQs

Nineteenth-century watercolour painting experienced a golden age, particularly in Britain and France, where artists captured coastal scenes, harbours, and architectural landmarks with delicate washes and fine detail.

These works were typically created using fine pigments suspended in water, applied to handmade or rag paper, and often framed behind glass with a protective card mount.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the paper texture, watermark evidence, ink or pencil signatures, pigment characteristics under magnification, and the age-related toning of the paper.

An antique watercolour adds historic depth to modern spaces when displayed on a neutral wall using simple, conservation-grade framing that complements both traditional and minimalist decor.

To prevent fading and paper degradation, these artworks should be kept away from direct sunlight, maintained in stable humidity conditions, and framed using UV-protective glass.
