A good one pint tavern mug, probably by the maker recorded as E M, circa 1730.
The mug has a slightly tapering plain body and stands on a stepped foot. The handle has a tongued thumb rest and a ball terminal at the lower end. There is a faint makers mark to the inside of the base. The mug is not verified and has no capacity label, so we can assume that this was a tavern mug or made for private use.
An identical mug is published as item 150, page 58 in ''Early English Pewter Drinking Mugs'' by Carl Ricketts.
