Developed in England during the late eighteenth century, the Willow pattern was inspired by imported Chinese porcelain motifs. It was mass-produced during the Victorian era using copper-plate transfer printing onto durable earthenware and ironstone bodies.

Ironstone is a refined earthenware ceramic made from flint, clay, and iron slag. Patented in Staffordshire in the early nineteenth century, it was fired at high temperatures to produce heavy, durable, and chip-resistant tableware.

Authentic pieces typically feature heavy weight, a smooth underglaze transfer print, subtle manufacturing irregularities, and often makers marks or impressed stamps on the reverse side. Crazing in the glaze can also indicate age.

Platters can be mounted on walls in grouped ceramic displays, leaned against backsplashes in kitchen pantries, or styled vertically on wooden sideboard tops for a traditional focal point.

Hand wash gently with mild detergent and warm water, avoiding harsh abrasive scrubbers. Do not place antique transferware in dishwashers or microwaves to prevent crazing, fading, or heat damage.
