Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, an Arts and Crafts bureau emphasises utility, honest craftsmanship, and simplified structural form, often incorporating exposed joinery, hand-crafted metalwork, and integrated shelving.

These desks typically feature solid hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, complemented by hand-hammered copper, brass, or iron hardware, alongside inset leather writing surfaces.

Authentic pieces display robust construction, dovetail drawer joints, natural patination on metal fittings, and distinct period details such as stylized cut-out motifs or galleried tops.

Position the bureau in a study nook or hallway alcove, paired with simple desk accessories and muted wall paint to allow the rich mahogany grain and copper accents to serve as the visual focal point.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish along the wood grain twice yearly, while keeping the piece away from direct heat sources to preserve the timber finish.
