Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Tabriz carpets originate from the city of Tabriz in north-western Iran, which is one of the oldest rug-weaving centres in the world. Carpet production flourished here during the Safavid dynasty in the 16th century and experienced a major revival in the late 19th century, producing finely knotted pieces for both domestic use and export.

These rugs are traditionally crafted using hand-spun wool, often with silk highlights, set on a cotton or wool foundation. They employ the asymmetric Persian knot or the symmetric Turkish knot, resulting in a high knot density that allows for intricate, curvilinear floral and medallion designs.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the knot count per square inch, the quality and flexibility of the foundation, natural vegetable dyes displaying subtle abrash, and the fineness of the curvilinear drawing in the border and field motifs.

An antique rug of this scale anchors a large space, working effectively as the focal point in a neutral room with minimalist furniture to balance the ornate patterns, or layered into an eclectic, textured interior scheme.

Preservation requires regular vacuuming with the suction set to low without a beater bar, professional cleaning by a specialist in antique textiles every few years, and the use of a breathable rug underlay to prevent sliding and fibre abrasion.
