Description

A rare and unusual Barr Flight & Barr Worcester porcelain scalloped plate from Lord and Lady Flight Collection.

The plate is beautifully painted with groupings of fruit and birds in flight in the Lord Henry Thynne pattern and central circular panel with a view of Drumcondra bridge near Dublin framed within a black and turquoise border.

The rim is decorated with a deep cobalt band with elaborate gilt pattern.

Marked to the reverse with the impressed in the mass BFB, the title of the view and a retains a sticker of Lord and Lady Flight Collection as a provenance. Dating to circa 1807.

Dimensions: diameter – 22 cm.

Condition: very good condition, couple of small superficial scratches to the central reserve, minor gilt wear to the rim.

Produced during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Flight, Barr & Barr (and predecessor Barr, Flight & Barr) Worcester porcelain is distinguished by soft-paste porcelain, intricate gold leaf embellishments, and finely hand-painted decorative motifs including landscapes, botanicals, and fruit reserves.

These ceramics were crafted from fine porcelain clay, kiln-fired, and decorated using enamel paints applied in multiple layers. Gilding was completed using mercury gilding or burnished gold leaf, often finished with detailed tooling and hand-applied enamel borders.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-applied gilding, precise enamel painting, and specific impressed or painted factory marks on the reverse, such as B.F.B. beneath a crown or incised capital letters typical of the Worcester manufactory.
