Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Agra carpets were produced in northern India starting in the sixteenth century under Mughal rule, drawing heavy artistic influence from classical Persian weaving traditions. They are recognised for their complex floral patterns, dense knotting, and balanced colour palettes.

These carpets are constructed using a sturdy cotton foundation for the warp and weft, with a pile hand-knotted from high-quality wool. Historical examples rely on natural vegetable and mineral dyes to achieve rich tones such as plum, indigo, and terracotta.

Authenticity is verified by examining the weave structure, which typically displays asymmetric knots on a cotton warp. Genuine period examples also show gentle colour variation, known as abrash, alongside soft wear patterns consistent with hand-dyed wool construction.

A large patterned rug serves as an anchor for a seating area, establishing the room palette when paired with neutral upholstery or complementary timber furniture. Positioning the carpet beneath key furniture unifies open-plan living spaces or formal dining rooms.

Routine vacuuming using a suction-only setting without a rotating brush bar prevents fibre damage. Professional hand-cleaning by an antique textile specialist should be undertaken periodically, and underlay should be placed beneath to reduce friction and uneven wear.
