Description

An homage to Bedstead’s past, this fabulous antique bed is actually one we restored over 30 years ago! We still love this original bedsteads paint finish, so we have generally re-zhuzhed, via cleaning, repairing and touching up the paint. The lovely original antique brass has been cleaned and highlighted.

The colours used have been hand mixed to expertly match the original bedsteads paint finish. We can happily send more photos and video if useful to get a sense of the colour.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Iron and brass beds gained popularity during the Victorian era due to advancements in industrial manufacturing and a growing emphasis on domestic hygiene compared to wooden beds.

These beds typically combine cast iron frames with spun brass fittings, finials, and mounts, often finished with painted or oxidised surfaces.

Authentic pieces often feature heavy cast iron components, hand-threaded joints, traditional foundry marks, and natural patination on the brass and painted surfaces rather than modern welding.

They can be paired with neutral linens and modern minimalist textiles to create a balanced focal point that highlights the historic industrial craftsmanship.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners on brass or painted iron to preserve the original finish and patina.
