Size: 16ft 1in x 6ft 4in (490 x 194cm).

Antique Turkish Reyhanli kilim from south-east Anatolia, with excellent design and colour.

Circa 1890.

This kilim was woven in two parts on a narrow loom and then sewn together, this is why the design and colour is very slightly different on each side. This adds to the visual impact of this kilim. The colours are outstanding and all the whites are woven in cotton. An outstanding kilim of very large size. Reyhanli, is a town and district in Hatay Province on the Mediterranean coast of Anatolia, is known for its traditional kilim weaving.

The kilim is in excellent condition with very slight wear and no damage.

The kilim is suitable for normal domestic use.

The kilim has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.

A Reyhanli kilim is a traditional flat-woven wool carpet originating from the Reyhanli region in southern Anatolia, near the Syrian border. These textiles are recognised for their bold geometric medallions, intricate border designs, and vibrant natural dye palettes.

Traditional kilims are created using a flatweave or slit-weave tapestry technique, where the coloured weft threads are tightly woven through the warp threads. Due to the narrow width of traditional portable looms, larger kilims were typically hand-woven in two separate halves and stitched together down the centre.
